How the violence prevention watch works
In domestic violence situations, perpetrators often break or disable their victims’ phones, leaving them unable to call for help. Our duress alarm, a wearable device that doubles as a smartwatch, is designed to be a discreet piece of technology that overcomes this problem. If the wearer feels they’re in danger at any time, they can engage the duress alarm with a simple activation. This immediately opens live audio recording and provides our accredited monitoring centre with GPS location to pinpoint exactly where you are. Read more below to learn about the service and onboarding process, or go directly to the client onboarding form below.
If you are in immediate danger, please call 111 or the Refuge crisis line on 0800 REFUGE or 0800 733 843.
Onboarding process for clients or staff
We work in partnership with NZ domestic violence support groups across the country to offer the watch and monitoring service to their clients and front-line workers to increase their safety. This evidence-based support service includes the watch and a 6-month monitoring plan for clients and a 12-month monitoring plan for staff. Help@Hand may fully fund this for those who qualify and if we have funding for your region. In the worst-case scenario, we will work with you to receive funding for this critical safety service.
